Jess Fletcher

Qualifications, Education and Experience

Jess holds a BA in Dramatic Art from UC Santa Barbara where she studied with an accomplished team of faculty and master directors including multiple award winning playwright, Naomi Iizuka and such visiting guests as Kathy Bates, John Cleese, Anne Bogart and Anna Devere-Smith.

During her Junior year at UCSB, Fletcher was awarded the Corwin Award for Best Student Written One-Act for her original play, Spontaneous Combustion, which was later produced at the Actor’s Gang Theatre in Los Angeles. Jess served as a US Delegate at the International Young Playwrights Festival in Townsville, Australia and earned her MA in Script Writing at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. 

Jessica has lived in Redding for 12 years and is an active educator and performer in Redding’s ever expanding theater community. Most recently, she wrote the screenplay for Curtain Up, a full-length documentary film about the Historic Cascade Theatre that premiered in September, 2018. Fletcher teaches public and private scriptwriting, acting, and stage management workshops and has worked for and performed with such theatre companies as Axiom Repertory Theatre (ART), Axiom Children's Theatre (ACT), The Cascade Theatre, Riverfront Playhouse, and Harris Studios.

Fletcher is currently a part-time faculty member in the Theatre Arts department at Shasta College. She is the founder and facilitator of the annual Shasta College Original Plays Experiment (SCOPE), a free public script reading of student-written original plays, designed to celebrate students as emerging playwrights and promote the collaboration of actors from the various Redding theatre companies.

She is also a proud member of the Dramatist’s Guild.
